Where The Light Shines Through

OVERVIEW: solo exhibition by Duncan Stewart

The subject of ‘light’ carries deep symbolisms and can be interpreted either literally or figuratively/conceptually. These positions provide an interesting starting point from which to compare and explore the subject of where the light shines through.

Literally, we understand that it is light that defines, gives shape, form and colour to the world around us. Without light we would not be able to function or move and live. A conceptual interpretation goes deeper, expressing thoughts and ideas that require a deeper understanding as in, ‘we see the light’ or a ‘lightbulb moment’’ – it speaks of that eureka, ah-ha moment, a revelation or illumination of some once-hidden, ungraspable truth or reality.

This exhibition is inspired by both the literal and conceptual aspects of ‘where the light shines through’.
